Why the Name, Chris Smith Memorial Library?
Christopher Morgan Smith, the son of Morgan and Bits Smith, and the brother of Robin Smith Vail, was born in 1944 and died in 1958 of a respiratory illness. Morgan and Bits are founding members of Deermeadows Baptist Church. When the sanctuary was being built in 1991, Vic and Dot Royals, Morgan’s business partner and his wife, made a designated gift for the establishment of a library at Deermeadows. The reason for this gift was Chris had a great love of reading and so the memorial was used to recognize Chris’s love of reading and the Christian influence of a Godly family. Upon receipt of the gift to establish the Library, the Deacons passed a resolution that the Library would be named in Chris’s memory.
